SAT Critical-Reading - Intro to the Reading Section

Critical Reading sections of SAT consist of three scored sections, two 25-minute sections and one 20 minute section. There are two main type of questions in a critical reading section:

1. Sentence Completion Questions: These questions consist of sentences with one or two words missing. You are expected to select the best combination of word/words that would suit the given sentence. You are expected to follow the logic in the sentence and select the words based on vocabulary, organization and grammar.

2. Passage Based Questions: Every critical reading section of SAT consists of passage based questions. The number of passages in every section could range from 1 long passage to 4 passages of varying lengths. The length of the passage could range from 40 words for a small passage to up to 900 words for a long passage. The number of questions about each passage is proportional to the length of the passage. The passage content can vary from the arts and humanities to the sciences and fiction. Every SAT also has a "paired passage" that consists of two passages usually written by two different authors on a related topic. Passage based questions test your ability to grasp the main ideas conveyed in the passage. You may also face questions regarding the tone of the passage, the content, details and what the passage might suggest. In case of the paired passages, you would be asked to compare and contrast the two.
