Clearly, there are a number of different types of questions you will encounter during the Passage Based reading section. It is helpful to be able to identify the type of question quickly and easily, so that you can know which approach to take to the question.
Certain keywords in questions can help you to quickly and easily identify the question type. Some of the literary keywords that appear mot frequently are:
- "According to the author/passage": When you see this language, you know that you are looking at an author's point of view question. You must be sure to answer based on what the author of the passage wrote. Make sure you don't chose an answer based on the wrong viewpoint (a different passage, or a quote that the author used).
- "Implies/infer/suggest": As soon as you see language like this, you know you are dealing with an inference question. The answer will not be in the passage- you will have to take the information a step further and determine what else must be true based on the passage. You can immediately eliminate any answer choices that are found directly in the passage, because if the passage states something explicitly then it is not an inference.
