- Nouns Refer to People, Places, Things or Ideas

- Many nouns that refer to "things" are a special form of noun called a Verbal Nouns in which a verb, like "to think," is used to describe an idea instead of being used as an action
- Common/Proper Nouns
- Refer to the name of a specific person or place
- Proper Nouns are capitalized
- Compound nouns are nouns that have 2 or more words
- Ex: "swimming pool", "roof deck"- Each of these are 2 or more separate nouns (swimming + pool; roof" + "deck) that come together to create 1 thing
- Nouns can be either singular, plural or noncount nouns
- Singular nouns: refer to one person, place, thing or idea
- "A", "an", "one", "each", "every", and "another" denote singular nouns
- A cat, an apple, one dog, each person, every student, another boy
- Plural nouns: refer to multiple people, places, things, ideas
- "Two", "all", "both", "many", "of the", and "few" denote plural nouns
- Two cats, all the books, both of the trees, a few of the cities
